Photograph Restoration
Sample #1 |
|

The photo on the left
was scanned from a 15 year old Polaroid that was severely
weathered and beaten. The plastic film was curling up on the edges and
as you can see, there were numerous scratches. Though you probably
can't see it here, there were also stains from food or drink spills
and discolorations. After digitally restoring it I printed it on acid
free card stock paper and double matted it. This woman was pleased to
have a memory of her daughter's successful fight for life which is why
the photo was so important in the first place. |

Restoration Sample #2 |

The photo on the left was about 30
years old by the time it reached me and was printed on the photo
paper typical of the 70's. It had residue from tape in the upper right
hand corner, discoloration from age, stain or image damage in the
lower right hand corner. After removing the stains and discolorations,
unsure of what the picture originally looked like I removed the
yellowing tone that aged images from that period seem to acquire and
brightened the image itself. The result is a brighter, younger looking
and fresher image of this toddler having his first, um, drink. |

Restoration Sample #3 |
|

This portrait picture
was about 60 years old and looked to be in really good shape
for the age when I got hold of it. [The original size is 8 1/2" by
11"] Because it was already scanned digitally, notice the grainy look
of the image on the left. This is what happens when an image is
scanned and not resolved properly or with a resolution improperly
dictated or rather, usually because the image is over 200KB and to
save on file size sometimes we have to sacrifice quality. When I was
finished with it, the stains, yellowing and grain had been removed.
What we ended up with is a brighter, smoother, more photo realistic
image that's a lot cleaner. [This is a picture
of Robert Samuel Watts McManus as a baby; my father. He passed away
and this photograph meant a lot to me; it's how I became interested in
restoration. The original sits in my office, tacked to a stick board
that I look at everyday.] |
